DECISION

 

RENEWAL OF THE APPOINTMENT OF THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL

 

 

The Conference

 

Recalling that, in accordance with Article VIII, paragraph 43 of the Convention, the Director-General shall be appointed by the Conference upon the recommendation of the Executive Council, for a term of four years, renewable for one further term, but not thereafter;

 

Recalling further that the Conference, at its First Session, appointed José Mauricio Bustani as Director-General for a term of office beginning on 13 May 1997 and ending on
12 May 2001 (C-I/DEC.2, dated 13 May 1997);

 

Noting the recommendation of the Executive Council at its Tenth Meeting to the Conference at this session on the renewal of the appointment of the Director-General (EC-MX/DEC.2, dated 18 May 2000);

 

Hereby:

 

Appoints José Mauricio Bustani as Director-General for one further term of office of four years, beginning on 13 May 2001 and ending on 12 May 2005; and

 

Authorises the Chairman of the Conference to conclude a contract with the Director-General accordingly, on the terms and conditions set out in document EC-VIII/DEC.1, dated
30 January 1998, as subsequently adjusted in accordance with those terms by the Executive Council.
