Title : Malaysia: Statement at the Second Review Conference

Description : The first Review Conference was held in April 2003, exactly five years ago. The purpose of that Conference and this one is to review the operation of the Chemical Weapons Convention. The progress since then has been significant. The increase in the number of States Parties to 183 is commendable and encouraging. The 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention which we celebrated last year is another milestone for the Organisation. In this respect, we were happy to have celebrated the occasion in Malaysia as well. Credit must be made to the effective implementation of the Plan of Action on Universality. Malaysia fully supports the initiative and we would like to pay tribute to the Director-General for his untiring efforts to promote universality to all parts of the world. We hope such efforts will bring countries that are not yet States Parties to accept the Convention in the near future.
