First Session of the Conference of the States Parties (C-I)
6–23 May 1997
In accordance with Article VIII, paragraph 10 of the Convention, the Secretary- General of the United Nations, in his capacity as Depositary of the Convention, convened the First Session of the Conference of the States Parties in The Hague, the Netherlands, from 6 - 23 May 1997.
80 States Parties participated.
Chairman: Mr Pieter Cornelis Feith of the Netherlands.
Agenda items included:
- Financial Regulations;
- Scale of Assessments to be paid by States Parties;
- Staff Regulations and rules;
- All matters related to the transfer of property, functions and recommendations of the Commission to the Organisation;
- Headquarters Agreement with the Host Country;
- The (Preliminary) Tenancy Agreement of the OPCW Building;
- Models for facility agreements;
- OPCW Media and Public Affairs Policy.
