Removal of Syrian Chemicals Passes 86% of Total

The Director-General of the OPCW welcomed delivery of a further consignment of chemicals to the port of Latakia by the Syrian government on 22 April. The chemicals were immediately boarded onto cargo ships upon arrival at the port and removed from the country. This raises the overall portion of chemicals removed from Syria to 86.5% of the total, including 88.7 % of all Priority 1 chemicals. Read the press release

Executive Council and Director-General Visit Russian Federation

A delegation of the OPCW Executive Council led by Acting Chairperson H.E Mrs. Odette Melono, Ambassador of Cameroon, and accompanied by Director-General Ahmet Uzumcu, visited the Russian Federation from 14 to 17 April, where the members visited the Chemical Weapon Destruction Facility (CWDF) at Kizner, Udmurt Republic and held discussions with senior officials in Moscow on the destruction program. Statistics

190 nations, 98% of the global population, have joined the OPCW.

58,528, or 80.69%, of the world's declared stockpile of 72,531 metric tonnes of chemical agent have been destroyed.

5,365 inspections have taken place at 265 chemical weapon-related and 1,940 industrial sites on the territory of 86 States Parties since April 1997. Worldwide, 4,913 industrial facilities are liable to inspection.
