Director-General Visits Russia, Meets with Foreign Minister Lavrov

The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, visited Moscow on Monday where he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Sergey Lavrov, and separately with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov. Read the press release

13th and 14th Consignments of Chemicals Delivered to Latakia, Raising Overall Total of Removals to 65%

The OPCW-UN Joint Mission has confirmed that the Syrian government has delivered the 13th and 14th consignments of chemicals to Latakia, both of which were removed from the port. The two consignments were delivered to Latakia on 10 and 13 April, respectively, and immediately boarded onto cargo ships. Read the press release

The United States and the OPCW co-hosted a visit by international media and NGOs aboard the MV Cape Ray, which is currently anchored at the port of Rota in Spain. The visit attracted some 30 leading TV, radio and print journalists including the Aljazeera, BBC World Television and World Service Radio, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CNN, Radio Televisión Espana, NHK-Japan, Tokyo Broadcasting Co, and the ANSA, Associated Press and Reuters wire services, among others. Statistics

190 nations, 98% of the global population, have joined the OPCW.

58,528, or 80.69%, of the world's declared stockpile of 72,531 metric tonnes of chemical agent have been destroyed.

5,365 inspections have taken place at 265 chemical weapon-related and 1,940 industrial sites on the territory of 86 States Parties since April 1997. Worldwide, 4,913 industrial facilities are liable to inspection.
